Universities Becoming Trauma-Informed addressed on Jan. CTIPP CAN Call—Join the Feb. 17 call on Trauma Matters Delaware and Southern Oregon Success

First, a representative from Southern Oregon University will describe how, rather than just teaching a course or two on trauma science, it is integrating trauma science into every course so that every student who graduates is knowledgeable in trauma science.
Then, representatives from Eastern Tennessee State University describe how, with a grant from Ballad Health, it has created the Ballad Health Strong BRAIN Institute, which will lead the efforts to make ETSU a trauma-informed institution.
Finally, representatives from Florida State University describe how it has put trauma-informed approaches to work to promote the mental health of its student body as well as providing courses not only for its students but, through a range of certificate programs, for working professionals in the community as well.
We are excited for another great CTIPP CAN call in February, where we will hear from Trauma Matters Delaware and Southern Oregon Success about the great work they are doing in the communities they serve. The February call will go back to the normal third Wednesday of the month time from 2-3:30pm ET. You can view all upcoming calls with links on our Events page.
Until then, do not hesitate to reach out, and sign up for the National Trauma Campaign if you have not already done so. Help us spread the word about CTIPP CAN and the Campaign. We thank you for all you do to help us grow the movement and for the work you do as well!
Why Create Policies & Practices That Prevent ACEs & Trauma?
1. These policies and practices will impact and improve the lives of communities, families, and individuals in meaningful and substantial ways.
2. A WHO report found that ACEs cost the United States over $748 billion per year. When we dive into the numbers, we know that dollar figure is significantly greater than even that. We are wasting loads of money because we do not invest in prevention and mitigation as a society.
3. Using population attributable risk data, we estimated that ACEs-related behaviors and diseases cause 650,000 deaths in the United States each year.
4. COVID-19 and social unrest have increased adversity, stress, and trauma to even higher levels than they were at before.
5. All communities, families, and individuals should have the social, political, cultural, economic, and spiritual opportunities and support necessary to thrive!
