I am so glad to see this! we have some more work to do. The most stigmatizing language we use is in Special Education: Special Day Classes; Mild Moderate and Moderate Severe.... I am not sure what they mean? I would love to work with others to shift this to more of a Growth Mindset!

Re: Adaptive Schools and Trauma Informed Practices

As a district staff are trained to use the Adaptive Schools work, it is great to see how this programs is supporting a trauma informed mindset. It will be hugely beneficial for staff to see how Adaptive Schools and other strategies aren't all "stand-alone" and actually interweave to provide supports for students.

The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) defines five core SEL competencies , including (1)self-awareness, (2)social awareness, (3)self-management, (4)relationship skills, and (5)responsible decision making. The CASEL Five SEL competencies ARE NOT sufficient to achieve that which they were created to accomplish and which CASEL itself was created to accomplish. There are 6 core competencies, not five, and the 6th is the one that is by far the most important.
