That sounds excellent! I don't know of formal research, but I use Mentimeter in my trainings to compare and contrast the groups ACE scores with Resilience scores. Not surprising, our graduate school counseling students had high ACE and high resilience. I was a little surprised that my district teachers/staff group actually had a lower than average ACE scores. I hope you'll share your outcomes!!

Hi, Rod -- You can probably find someone in the Philadelphia area. I suggest contacting Leslie Lieberman or someone else in the Philadelphia ACEs group. And, I know that Jim Sporleder, former principal of Lincoln, has retired from his job there to begin consulting with high schools. For online instruction, ACEsConnection member Steve Dahl has developed a course that many schools in Washington State have used. I hope this helps! Cheers, Jane

Lee ~ You hit on a key point. No one should be surprised that we don't "punish" the students. We use a restorative justice model to teach students how their actions/behaviors impact the community as a whole. It's time intensive, but it has helped prevent suspensions and expulsions, which has helped create stability in the lives of our students. Hi Wendy, I could not agree more. We recently hired a whole group of new staff who are school counselors but also have teaching certifications. The new staff members are called "student success coordinators" and are going to be serving as a hybrid teacher/case manager/counselor. Particularly, in addition to reading/math strategies, technology, curricula-- as observed in your work--which improvement content/strategies/competencies are emphasized by local/state education agencies with high federal programs funding/high utilization of free-reduced lunch?

Hello Ariane, I have some suggestions: Chapter 4 of The Connected Child (attached with permission) shows the disarming of fear to create felt safety in what I think is an approachable way that is easy to share with teachers. When I was a suicidal teen, I wish someone would have explained to me what was going on in my brain and that I wasn’t insane. I believe it is appropriate for teens -generally - maybe explained in a more general way like when you have these experiences and poverty and foster care and homelessness - your brain develops in a certain way and you will need support and to take special care. I would suggest a brief intro about about the movie, letting people they can and should step out/stay safe as needed and then show the movie with a debrief afterwards.
