I spent a week getting training on classroom trauma-informed processes/philosophy by Conscious Discipline. Altho they don't mention ACEs specifically, everything is aligned to avoid triggers and they prioritize supporting emotional development. Hello All, I am writing to see if anyone can recommend articles on integrating TIC in the classroom. Many of my MSW students this year have disclosed experiencing PTSD and depression either from community violence and/or being veterans. I will be presenting to Field Instructors (AKA supervisors) who are supervising students who have experienced trauma and strategies to incorporate SAMHSA's guiding principles. I am hoping to find articles to forward on to the field instructors.

Recently, I attended an IEP for a primary age Deaf child whose 'back to school' weeks have come from Hell. I'm both an adult with disAbilities and a long time teacher (both general and special education) - 44 years. Hello- I am wondering if anyone has any resources for curriculum or lesson plans targeting 13-18 year old adolescents that have experienced trauma. The goal is to teach them about potential trauma triggers, trauma reactions, what trauma is, resiliency, and personal wellness. Erin, I would suggest you consult with the child's trauma therapist. Any child that has a trauma history should (and would greatly benefit) from having a "Trauma Trigger Management Plan." Avoiding triggers creates a fine line to walk. In a classroom setting - I think it's very important to avoid triggers - in a personal confidential and therapeutic setting - where a child may want help processing a trigger - is a different scenario but should only be addressed by a team working with that...

I recently provided my campus a brief training on Trauma and Learning. As part of this training I included information about ACEs, gave teachers the ACEs questionnaire and discussed how our own ACEs score can affect teaching/teaching styles and how educators relate to their students as well as other faculty members. My final question for them "What ACEs score do you bring into the classroom?"

There are many things you could do in leadership, social and emotional learning, mindfulness, positive self talk, decision making activities and team building activities. I use these in my classroom.
