Pilot Program... Can a Picture Book Promote Mindfulness?

Janie Lancaster ·
Have you used a picture book to promote mindfulness? What was your observations? I wrote a picture book "Edwina Beena's Polka Dot Day" to help children like me (traumatic childhood) to have a more peaceful mind. My original goal was to get my...

Trauma Informed Curriculum for 13-18 year olds that have experienced trauma?

Former Member ·
Hello- I am wondering if anyone has any resources for curriculum or lesson plans targeting 13-18 year old adolescents that have experienced trauma. The goal is to teach them about potential trauma triggers, trauma reactions, what trauma is, resiliency, and personal wellness. There is a lot of information on these topics geared towards educating providers, but nothing for the kids who have experienced the trauma. Thanks! -erin

Hi! I am very curious what you found after using your book in the school setting. I am a school counselor to K-5th grade students in Texas. I look forward to hearing how you were able to use your book and the results of your project. Thank you in advance.

Here is an attachment a teacher made to show other teachers the success of our program. I would be happy to talk to you on the phone if you like.

Erin, I would suggest you consult with the child's trauma therapist. Any child that has a trauma history should (and would greatly benefit) from having a "Trauma Trigger Management Plan." Avoiding triggers creates a fine line to walk. In a classroom setting - I think it's very important to avoid triggers - in a personal confidential and therapeutic setting - where a child may want help processing a trigger - is a different scenario but should only be addressed by a team working with that...

Hello everyone, I am going to add a link to what I like to use. I am clearly biased as I work for another branch of the same company. We are not mandated however to utilize but I do integrate this workbook with other materials which target other relevant topics for my populations. The workbook I use seems to cover many of the topics highlighted. There is also a manual. NeuroLogic® Workbook: You Can Change Your Mind by Kathy Van Horn Hopefully this helps. Heloise
