Reply to "Partners in Georgia and States Near Georgia"

Hi Robbyn,

I am just now seeing this post... I can give you an idea of what's happening in Athens.

We have a pretty active group working on a collaborative impact model to help Athens become a TIC. You can see info on the community summit here: http://a2aathens.weebly.com/the-summit.html   You can also see all of the stakeholders who were involved in the Summit-- it's a diverse group . The primary convener is the Family Connections-Communities in Schools folks. It was one of their action committees, chaired by our local juvenile court judge, who began the initiative. I would start with Tim Johnson at FC-CIS.

Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement has a School to Prison Pipeline initiative, and the Chess and Community group would also probably be interested in learning more.

Many of the counselors and support staff have done the three-part training that was offered by GSU at DFCS offices throughout the state. I'm sure you're aware of that, though.

In terms of specific schools doing specific work, you may want to check in with the Restorative Practices/Justice groups. Pretty much anyone teaching RJ these days includes TIP/ACEs in their work.

I'm a graduate student at Kennesaw State University's School of Conflict Management, Peacebuilding and Development, finishing up my fieldwork now. The school I'm in has had two professional development sessions on TIP; the presenter was from the SSW at UGA. The staff is asking for more-- it makes so much sense to them! But it's also really tough when so many of the issues are systemic and they are working to mitigate their own vicarious trauma on a daily basis.

I look forward to hearing more about the conference!
