Hi Shannon,

I'd be happy to share some thoughts with you based on our experience in creating a community conversant in ACEs and Resilience here in Walla Walla.Β  It basically started with the passionΒ infused byΒ Dr. Rob Anda, co-lead on ACE Study, and his suggestion to create the groundswell from theΒ grassroots approach.Β  That is what we have tried toΒ do by involving a large number of partners to the Children's Resilience Initiative.Β  Please call me 509/386-5855 if you'd like to discuss ideas or approaches, or check out our website to see if this approach appeals to you (www.resiliencetrumpsaces.org).Β  Teri BarilaΒ

Greetings Shannon! Β I am in Pullman, WA, probably not too far from you. Β I run an organization called SmileAtYourBaby.org Β I suggest beginning at the beginning! Β In-utero and 0-3. Β Education, outreach, empathy and compassion and BABY BITS. Β Here is today's BABY BIT. Β Would LOVE to chat with you sometime! Β :D

In peace,

Shelley Calissendorff, Founder/Executive Director

Hello Shannon,

At Peace4Tarpon TICI (Trauma Informed Community Initiative) we started by getting City government involved (I was on the Board of Commissioners at the time) and showing the connection between ACEs and the issues/challenges that city government face. We have many natural partners in our community and we began engaging them as well. By natural partners, I include our police department, fire rescue, local hospital, faith based community, community members, schools, college, service providers, after school programs, neighborhood family centers, and others. The idea was that every partner could bring a unique piece to the solution..and that's what they have been doing. It's a rather broad initiative, but who could we exclude? If you'd like contact me,I can be reached at (727) 934-2379. Would be happy to talk further with you. www.peace4tarpon.orgΒ  www.facebook.com/Peace4Tarpon

Thanks Shelley and Jane, Truth be told,it's a huge undertaking and we have much more work ahead of us. Creating a cultural shift and different future takes time!
The process, however,is very organic, gaining energy, and amazing connections are occurring!
David Brooks' article "The Psych Approach" in the NY Times last Sept which brought the ACE study into mainstream media, gave me great hope that we may be nearing a tipping point!
Peace,
Robin
