CAPTA is foundational to our nation’s system for preventing and addressing child abuse and neglect. It supports interventions to protect and respond to children after they have been seriously harmed, as well as family support services which prevent child abuse and neglect from occurring in the first place. It has not been reauthorized since 2010.
Both the House and Senate have developed strong bipartisan reauthorization bills that will help children and families in our state. They include provisions that increase the program’s accountability, strengthen the law’s focus on prevention, and help to reduce fatalities.
