The League of Women Voters Davis Area (LWV) and CivEnergy Present "Housing...Past is Prologue"

The LWV Davis Area and CivEnergy bring Richard Rothstein to begin a community conversation on Local Housing Policies, our General Plan and Housing Element. In his book The Color of Law, Mr. Rothstein describes how government enacted Housing Policies produced and maintained segregation—as well as what the effects of these policies are today.

After Mr. Rothstein speaks, we will have a panel moderated by David Sandino, Senior Counsel Department of Water Resources.

Panel Guests:

We are delighted to have Alysa Meyer, Managing Attorney for Northern California Legal Services in Yolo County since 2008. Ms. Meyer represents low-income individuals and families in housing, public benefits, education, civil rights, and health law cases. She has spent most of her 25-year career working to address the civil legal needs of vulnerable individuals through litigation, administrative advocacy, and community development work.

We also welcome David J. Thompson, President, Twin Pines Cooperative Foundation. Mr. Thompson has spent nearly all his working life committed to the development of cooperatives, and the latter half to affordable nonprofit housing. Mr. Thompson will provide insights into various housing types that can help provide solutions to building affordable housing.

To complete our panel, we pleased to have Ashley Feeney, Assistant City Manager and the Director of Economic and Community Development for the City of Davis. Mr. Feeney will discuss what the City of Davis is challenged by on the issue of housing affordability.
