Washington State ACEs Action (WA)

A forum to inform and connect individuals and communities working to promote safe, stable, nurturing relationships and environments and prevent and mitigate ACEs in Washington State.

Author/Speaker now in Washington

A recent move (to join my children and grandchildren) now makes Washington my home. Starting over is in my trauma DNA and I boldly post in order to build a new network! I have spoken at the ATN Trauma Sensitive Schools Conference the past two years. I retired from a 40 year career in education (33 in teacher education) and began an intensive journey to heal from childhood trauma. Once I understood the effects of early childhood trauma and the lifelong effects of ACEs, I knew my story and knowledge could help others--both to heal and work with children affected by trauma.

I am excited to build new connections. Endorsements for my books are below!

Website and Blog: https://www.janyne.org/

“Janyne McConnaughey bravely becomes the voice for children who have experienced attachment wounding and trauma. I highly recommend this book for all professionals who work with children and adults that struggle with attachment and the far reaching effects of childhood trauma. Not only does her book provide insight into the painful experience of trauma but it helps the reader understand the ‘why’ behind the behavior of a hurting child. Janyne also boldly speaks hope, which is so desperately needed by those impacted by trauma and the hurt of disrupted attachment.”

–HEATHER C. THOMPSON, MS, LPC, Child and Family Therapist

“Janyne has a gift for taking us into her rabbit hole and helping us understand the challenges of healing from trauma. I strongly recommend this book to educators who wish to understand their students who may be dissociating in their class. Thanks to Janyne’s transparent telling of her own story, the complex concept of dissociation can be understood without needing a psychology degree.”

–MELISSA SADIN, Exec. Director of Ducks & Lions, Program Director of ATN Creating Trauma Sensitive Schools, Author of Teachers Guide to Trauma
