Thomas Fire Trauma Spawns Behavioral Health Efforts (VCStar)

People reeling from the Thomas Fire are the target of a new behavioral health counseling team funded by a federal grant.

"It wasn't just the fire," said team leader Michael White, citing the fear of mud and debris flows that have brought evacuations, school closings and other disruptions. "That sense of normalcy and safety that we hoped would have occurred isn't really there. People are still on edge."

The new program, California HOPE of Ventura County, is aimed at that edge. It's an eight-member team funded through a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Association to the Ventura County Behavioral Health Department.
