VBRP meeting with Center for the Advancement of Rural Living (CARL) to Develop Initiatives

On November 5th, nine VBRP members met with representatives of CARL, a county-wide non-profit, to discuss means of collaborating in the task of promoting community, family, and individual resilience in Van Buren.  As a result of the meeting CARL will assist us in planning and funding programs to address needs in two areas: substance dependence in our families, and ACEs screening for children in health settings.

As a long-term endeavor we committed to undertaking a comprehensive needs and resources assessment for the community during the winter months, and will work cooperatively with other area organizations in short-term projects to spearhead the collection and distribution of adequate winter clothing for the many children who need it, and ensure that children have Christmas gifts.

We are working to address both our community's immediate needs and to develop evidence-based, community-initiated projects to promote resilience.  Our Facebook page "Van Buren Resiliency Project" gives a pretty up-to-date picture of what we are doing.
