Emergency Housing, Food, & Financial Resources for Undergraduates at California's Public Colleges and Universities [cahomelessyouth.library.ca.gov]

By The California Homeless Youth Project, February 2020

The California Homeless Youth Project compiled lists of basic needs resources that California’s public colleges and universities offer to undergraduates in order to make these resources more accessible. Basic needs resources include emergency housing, programs targeting students experiencing housing insecurity, programs targeting foster youth, free groceries, free prepared meals, on-campus CalFresh application assistance, emergency grants, and short-term loans. The 50 California Community College campuses, 23 California State University campuses, and 9 University of California campuses included in these lists are the same campuses examined in a CHYP report, Measuring Our Success: Campus Supports for College Students Experiencing Food & Housing Insecurity. Information on basic needs resources was collected primarily from campus websites between October 2019 and January 2020. Eligibility for basic needs resources varies by campus and by program; students should reach out to campus staff to determine if they are eligible for specific programs, services, and resources.
