Public Service Announcement from the
Surry County Intervention Team

In coordination with the Surry County Office of Substance Abuse Recovery, the Surry County Intervention Team created a short Public Service Announcement (PSA).

The PSA is  designed to encourage patients and community members to reach for help when challenged with a substance use crisis.  Sonya Cheek, CPSS and Surry County Intervention Team Member is highlighted in the video.  Take a moment to view the segment below.

All-Stars Community Prevention
Group Activities

All-Stars Volunteers assisted in a recent Jamz in the Park Event that promoted the needs of children of incarcerated parents.

The Surry County Office of Substance Use Recovery and the All-Stars Prevention Group has distributed over 170 Deterra Chemical Medication Disposal Kits to the Surry County Community.  Contact Charlotte to learn more or request your kit.

The Collision of ACEs and SUD

Our office publishes a monthly article in both the Mount Airy News and Elkin Tribune Newspapers.

This month's article focuses on the intersection of Adverse Childhood Experiences and Substance Use Disorder.

Expanded Surry County Data Books

A growing list of Data Books are published on the Surry County Cares Website. The Data Books are designed to provide up to date information monthly on the following topics:



  • EMS Substance Use Events Data Book - Substance Use Related Events responses by the Surry County Emergency Medical Services are reported here. Data includes number of events, gender, ethnicity, month breakdown and age in addition to numerous other statistics.
  • Intervention Team Data Book - The Intervention Team Data Book provides information related to referrals, referral source, gender, age and location of clients served.
  • Transportation Data Book - The Transportation Team Data Book reports data such as number of trips, outcomes and miles driven. General demographics of our riders are also included.
  • Community Outreach Data Book - The County Outreach Data Book displays progress documenting Community Activities and Partnerships beginning July 2021.
  • Community Demographic Data Book - The County Data Book provides generic information related to demographics and census related information.
