2) The NC Poor People's Campaign and the NAACP of North Carolina will hold another vigil this Friday Oct 8th at 5:00PM at 200 North Blount Street in Raleigh to demand a full pardon for Dontae Sharpe, a Greenville, NC man who was incarcerated for 26 years for a crime he did not commit. He has been exonerated and released from prison, but Dontae also must be rid of the false label of "felon" and receive the monetary compensation he deserves for the many years of his life stolen by a racist legal system. The Vigil will also be livestreamed on our Facebook Page

ACTIONS:

Election Redistricting:  Now that the public hearings for Community ReDistricting have ended, there are 2 new digital ways for you to raise your voice to our legislators - who divide us up into districts and draw our voting maps. Democracy NC provides these for us:

  1. Send your thoughts directly to these legislators through the public portal. We strongly encourage you to review these quick tips for writing a strong public commentand then submit your opinions to the portal here. This official record of public comments is necessary to prove that community members like you want Fair Maps.

  2. Sign this petition with our most up-to-date demandson a transparent, inclusive, and fair redistricting process moving forward.

Climate Justice:  Our partners NC WARNand NC Justice Center are urging us to contact our legislators to demand they vote NO on HB951 "Energy Solutions for NC", a controversial energy bill that frees Duke Energy to keep building gas-fired plants which release methane and will dramatically increase everyone’s energy bill while failing to provide meaningful programs to protect those with low incomes from increased electricity bills."

Leandro Showdown. Pastors for NC Children, NC Council of Churches and Every Child NC call us to a Lunch and Learn on Tuesday Oct 12thabout the Leandro Plan to ensure a sound basic education for all NC children, and to a Vigil on Monday August 18th in Raleigh.
