Overcoming Adversity via Diversity in Technology and Digital Media Storytelling

Dear Family,

Our Winter Professional Networking Breakfast is coming up (Thursday Dec 14th, 7:30-9am) and I'd love to see you there!  RSVP NOW

Creative digital media genius and friend-of-the-Institute Villy Wang will speak about social enterprise and how digital media arts can empower youth of color from historically underserved communities to take back their narratives through storytelling. I've queued up a particularly good bit from her recent TED talk here

Check it out: we think you'll want to meet her in person!

Villy at TED 2016

Villy had a crazy dream: to create a new kind of social enterprise that helps kids who, like her, grew up in the projects. Raised by an immigrant single mother in New York City, Villy’s desire to tell her story forged a passion for using the digital media arts to capture stories untold and to create social change. That’s why she founded BAYCAT, leveraging her impressive 25-year background in education, arts programming, nonprofit business and law.

Villy hopes that attendees will be inspired to create social change by telling our own stories and expanding our understanding by hearing from diverse storytellers!

Filmmakers, film students, and school faculty are invited to stay from 9-10am for a conversation with Villy.
