In 2019, more than $40 million will become available to fund community-based, culturally rooted, trauma-informed services for youth in California as alternatives to arrest and incarceration. Thousands of California youth are arrested every year for low-level offenses. After seven years, the San Diego Trauma Informed Guide Team (SD-TIGT) had evolved and grown significantly, as had the trauma informed movement. Upon reviewing the initial Strategic Plan, developed in 2009, it was found that it was time for this document to be revised.
