Alternatives to 911 for Mental Health Response

The County of Sacramento is seeking community input on alternatives to calling 911 in a behavioral health crisis. Behavioral Health Services is hosting two virtual community engagement sessions via Zoom for Alternatives to 911 for Mental Health Response per Supervisor Kennedy’s guidance directing staff to propose alternatives. Our intent is to be inclusive.  Here is the link for details: https://dhs.saccounty.net/BHS/...rnatives-to-911.aspx

Register for the event today from 12-2pm here: https://tinyurl.com/SacBH02

I don't know.  MH First is a local group in Sacramento that has been providing services for mental health crises on the weekends.  It is an all volunteer group.  So we (Decarcerate Sacramento and our allies) have been pushing for the city and board of supervisors to fund this program.  Both the county and city have looked at CAHOOTS in Eugene, Oregon as a model, but we continue to push that we have folks doing this work right here in our community and we should try to build from what they have started.  CAHOOTS has been in operation for 30 years, but they still are connected to law enforcement in their work but have actually been wanting to make a separation from law enforcement completely.
