AAP's Trauma Guide comprises a six-part Trauma Toolbox for Primary Care for physicians who may or may not be familiar with adverse childhood experiences and the process of asking families about exposure to ACEs or other traumatic events.

It also offers a four-part guide for pediatricians on helping foster and adoptive families cope with trauma.

AAP also issued a major policy statement in 2012 -- Early Childhood Adversity, Toxic Stress, and the Role of the Pediatrician: Translating Developmental Science into Lifelong Health. It was accompanied by a technical report: The Lifelong Effects of Early Childhood Adversity and Toxic Stress.
