COVID-19 - Even More Reason To

Covid-19 – Even more reason to.

We know the most important thing we can do is be connected to ourselves and others, and out of that connection do the best we can to care for ourselves and each other. And with so many needs in our world, maybe even our personal one, that internal and external connection is more necessary than ever.

With Covid-19, we have seen an increase in both intensity and need across the spectrum. Those that needed us to be connected and involved before, need us even more now. And while it might feel counter-intuitive, if we have our own needs or struggles or fears, it’s even more essential for our own benefit to be outwardly connected.

When we are connected and get involved, (this is true for all ages, child through adult) it helps us as it helps address what is needed. It also creates the community we all need, personally and as a whole.

And addressing the realities of being connect and involved around Covid-19:

• We can all still do so safely
• With no or few resources
• While we might have to modify some of the traditional “hows” a bit, it might even be an opportunity to create additional better ways.

There is a worksheet attached “The Individual or Family Partial Plan” with pragmatic ways for you, and if applicable your partner, or/and children to connect and get involved. Most of the ways require no more than time or connection. And then if we have the resources, sorting through what we have to share or maybe even swap. Creating community as we go.

During Covid-19, while it might seem more challenging, it’s even more imperative. And we can do it.

Take the best care of yourself and others you can today.

While we are working and asking for overall change, here are simultaneous ways we all can and should be connected and involved.

Individually or as a family:

If applicable, children and teens can do all the same and should also be knowledgeable, connected and involved. You can call/google your local or national program for connections, information, and ideas. And you (including kids) might have some they need.

• Choose where to connect and get involved: e.g. child abuse, sexual abuse, domestic violence, poverty, trafficking, racial equity, gang programs (Family members might
choose different areas.)
• Choose how to physically connect and be involved. Volunteering, mentoring, sharing, making, or gathering items, connecting to those around you, etc...
• Choose how to daily ask others to connect and be involved. Whether that is asking others you know or a community/systems/government leader. It can be different individuals, different ways, on different days.
• Everyone should: Know signs and how to respond, and know and keep a national and community emergency numbers and resource list. (Form available under the Resources tab above). These are both equally important for you or your family (you might need to know for personal prevention or intervention), and for being able to help others.
• Take care of yourself(selves): Taking care of ourselves and being prepared is always essential. And as we connect, whether we have our own history or situation, or are impacted by helping, or a mix, making sure to take care of ourselves is a priority. (The form for Help and Hope is in development, but please reach out for help and support if needed, and create your own self-care and preparedness plans.)
