DACA Renewal Workshop

As you may know, the Trump administration recently announced plans to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) federal program which allows immigrants who came to the United States as children to apply for temporary protections from deportation and to receive work permits.

As a result of the President's decision, only DACA recipients whose benefits expire on or before March 5, 2018 may apply for renewal, and they must do so by October 5, 2017.

I am writing to you with urgency to inform you that the Sacramento Immigration Coalition is hosting an event coming up that will help all eligible DACAmented persons process and renew their benefits.

The Sacramento Immigration Coalition will offer legal assistance at one major DACA Renewal Workshop on Saturday, September 23They need as many volunteers as possible to help out on that day! They are especially in need of attorneys, who will be most helpful on September 23 in assisting DACA recipients with their renewal application paperwork. In order to participate, you must attend the mandatory volunteer training on September 21.

This workshop is a one-time event, only for those whose DACA status will expire on or before March 5, 2018.

DACA Dreamers came to this country through no fault of their own, and are here to achieve the American Dream through higher education. DACA helps tens of thousands of DREAMers with access to benefits such as in-state tuition, state financial aid, work permits, and driver's licenses.

I am proud that California is stepping up to protect our Dreamer students with $20 million in legal aid assistance and $10 million to help our financially needs students at our public colleges. We will continue to fight to keep this vital program intact, and to ensure ALL Californians have access to higher education.
