Pender County Task Force Meeting

Overview

The Pender County Resiliency Task Force met on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at 10:00 a.m.

Amy Read, the leader of the Task Force began the meeting with a Land Acknowledgement honoring that we are standing on  Waccamaw (Woccon) & Lumbee Nations.

Carey Sipp shared her thoughts about the importance of the power of two caring adults and how childhood adversity impacts the developing brains and bodies of children. She then went on to share the concept of “dandelions and lily brains” and how trauma and resilience impacts the brain. Another member shared in the chat a TED talk reflecting this concept.

A member spoke about how this Task Force has helped the work that she does with the Juvenile justice system and how when we help people feel loved and seen it makes a huge difference.

Amy shared with new participants how the Task Force started in September 2020 so just over a year old. Our goal is to help grow and support and share resources around ACEs and building resilience in Pender County.

She invited folks to share what they hoped to see the Task Force do in 2022 that they discussed in their small breakout rooms during introductions. Then members shared in the chat that they hope to see more parent involvement, outdoor resiliency fair involving parents and children in the county, data gathering and sharing, and trauma informed schools.

Stephanie Todd, from the Health department shared that there is a data bank for resources for specific organizations and resources. For clothing, clearing house of resources, agencies and how to quality.


A member reported that there was a Resilience screening at Topsail High School.

Another member shared that the next Resilience screening will be January 13 at Cape Fear Middle School. Team is working on bar code to register or return slip and they are looking at the budget for meals to provide.


The next Pender Task Force Meeting will be on Tuesday, January 25 at 10:00 a.m.
