Shout out for North Coast community support (Sonoma County Gazette)

By Robin Joy Wellman, December 28, 2020, Sonoma County Gazette.

I close my eyes, take a deep breath, and look to the future as I count my blessings big and small. It’s a New Year! We have all been impacted. No need to discuss it or go into details although I want to acknowledge each of you. Now we are looking for a new beginning, a since of hope, and faith that this will be over in our near future. Look at how we adapted and made the most of what was handed to us in our lives. For many it means that we have more alone time. You are not alone out there. So many of our wonderful organizations are here for you in many ways! I want to highlight many of them – but first I need to correct my last article which has a mistake. Yup! I made a mistake in noting the Bufano Statue and Running Fence was the same artist. They are not and when I was reminded of this I realized that I know this. Christo is the artist of the Running Fence. Thank you to Simone Wilson for contacting me. Simone is the author of many local titles which I am privileged to have some signed copies. She is a wealth of information about our local areas. Here is a link to a great book about Sonoma County BOOK although she is author as well of many other local titles: BOOKS

My first shout for community support is to Action Network with resource centers in Point Arena and Gualala. They have been around for quite some time growing into an organization that offers so much well-being to our community whether you are an individual or family. Their giveaways include:

  • produce and food bag,
  • diapers, and clothing giveaways.
  • They have emergency backpacks and school supply backpacks,
  • gas and food vouchers,
  • Teen Zoom Groups,
  • classes and resources for Child, Teen and Adult Mental Health,
  • Early Childhood Development
  • Teen Enrichment and Life Skills
  • Parent Peer Partnerships
  • Positive Parenting
  • Learning Through Play
  • Environmental Education
  • Trauma Healing
  • Domestic Abuse Counseling
  • Substance Abuse Prevention
  • Community Wellness and Resilience
  • Legal Assistance.
