Introductions of those present: Andi Clements, Becky Haas, Robin Crumley, Ginger Bastian ,Stacey Tedford,  Julia Bernard, Becky Campbell, Beth Cox, Pat Swartz, Brandy Maltsburger, Tara Hahner, Tim Bomgardner, Sarah Fine, and Audra Morrow

 Meeting Topics/Announcements:

  • Becky Reviewed what trauma informed care is, why system of care, systems that exist, partners
  • TIC Continuum of change process discussed:
    • Goal to move groups from being trauma aware to trauma sensitive to trauma responsive to ultimately trauma informed
  • Building Strong Brains Training
    • Four core concepts of development reviewed
  • 3 levels of stress and stress responses
    • Positive stress
    • Tolerable stress
    • Toxic stress
  • Trauma Informed Pilot Program- Building Strong Brains and Strong Families- ETSU grant received till June 2017 --updates presented from Andi, Robin, Stacey and Ginger on first phase of BGC Staff training, construction of quiet room, ACE’s training, ACEs too high,
  • Brandy- grant at Frontier Health- in the doctors’ offices; OB offices- Innovation lab with Dr Moore- classes and incentives for mothers
  • Becky Cox- coordinate school health- DOE and legislators—handle with care programs- sharing
  • Safe Families- Brandy and Andi--families taking care of kids needing safe locations—real life story- from this week explained- how important training was for dealing with these children
  • Trainings since last meeting- DCS statewide ACEs Training, , ETSU lecture, Train the Trainer, CASA training
  • Julia- training to be key for students- spring lectures started
  • Pat--CASA training- staff and parents needed and to start
  • Day Center- new building update
  • Audra- training with host families started- 2 so far- story shared with parents
  • Brandi-foster care parenting tips- they need this
  • Robin- sensory blankets made by 5th and 6th graders at BGC this week being delivered to two nursing homes with goal to help traumatized older population
  • Tim- ASP volunteer training for 150 leaders that will go out to Appalachia and make a difference
  • Tara- looking to roll out the training to staff- will continue ACE’s training year round also-
  • Becky Campbell- questions were asked for JC Press

 

Work Group Updates:

  • Resource Development- Need volunteers to develop website page with Julia
  • ACEs Too High- Ginger working on this for group access to page created
  • Outreach: training continued- CASA, Train the Trainer, etc.
  • Scribe- Robin and Eric as backup

 

Dates to Remember:

  • Feb 15th- 10 am Johnson City Police Department
  • March 30th- Mother Child Symposium- ETSU Nursing – 8-5pm Millennium
