Eleven state-specific profiles feature ACEs-related data and ACEs/trauma-informed/resilience-building initiatives

One of the resources shared with participants in the Sept. 13-14 convening of First Spouses in Milwaukee to address trauma was a series of state information sheets that featured data on ACEs prevalence and ACEs/trauma-informed/resilience-building initiatives. These one-pagers provided a succinct summary of state highlights on trauma that in some instances were well known to the First Spouses but for others, provided new information. In partnership with state trauma leaders, ACEs Connection Network would like to complete similar profiles for all fifty states and the District of Columbia. Please use the comment box below to offer your ideas on the type of information provided in the profiles as well as to provide specific information about statewide initiatives now underway.

The profiles can be used in a variety of ways—to educate state and national lawmakers about trauma-informed initiatives, to respond to media inquiries, to recruit advocates to the cause of trauma-informed care—just to name a few.

The attached eleven profiles from the following states were prepared by Elizabeth Hudson, Director of the Wisconsin Office of Children’s Mental Health: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. The profiles include a sample of diverse states (size, region) with a majority headed by Republican governors with one Independent (Governor Bill Walker of Alaska) and one Democrat (Governor Roy Cooper of North Carolina). First Gentleman Wade Christensen of Oklahoma provided gender diversity. He is married to Governor Mary Fallin, one of the current six female governors.
