January Monthly Meeting Updates

 
  • Coming up on Friday, February 4 at noon there will be a free screening of the film Resilience and a panel discussion focused on Black Resilience.

                     

                       

  • New Opportunities for Learning and Training

  • Foundations of Resilience

    Your journey to becoming trauma-informed and resiliency-focused begins with this two-part virtual training offered by the Resiliency Task Force. Participants will be introduced to the concepts of ACEs, toxic stress, trauma, and how they impact individuals and communities. Participants will also learn about skills for restoring and increasing their own resilience.

    Part 1:  A screening of the film Resilience: the Biology of Stress and the Science of Hope (90 minutes)

    Part 2:  Introduction to the Community Resilience model (90 minutes)

    This is a monthly session offered on the 4th Monday. Registration is required. Click here to REGISTER.

    If you have already completed one of the parts at another time, you may register for and attend just the portion you need.

    NC Child CAN Hub

    The Task Force also serves as a NC Child Child Advocacy Network Hub and we are fortunate to have Arssante Malone as our Public Engagement Specialist.



  • We have formed an Advocacy Advisory Team that will work together to develop proposals to focus our advocacy efforts.  The team will bring these proposals to our steering committee and the task force in the coming months.

    Keep an eye out for more information on how to register for upcoming advocacy training opportunities.

    Equity and Inclusion Moment

    Members of our Equity & Inclusion Subcommittee will This will be a regular part of our monthly meetings moving forward.

  • Marla Barthen, Co-President of the League of Women Voters of the Lower Cape Fear, shared information on the history and current status of the Equal Rights Amendment.

  • Guest Speakers:

    Matthew Garcia shared information about his new program for young fathers, D.A.D.S for Success

    Jack Morris shared information about his new role as an Outreach Coordinator working directly with Wilmington’s downtown homeless population.
