New Hanover County Proclamation Approved as Part of Statewide Resilience Week!

 

This week, counties across North Carolina are celebrating Healthy and Resilient Communities week.

There are some 15 counties in the process of having their respective county commissioners sign a proclamation such as the one signed by New Hanover County commission chair Julia Olson-Bozeman. (See attached photo.)

Among the statewide activities being offered today, as part of the weeklong celebration, all are invited to participate in the following:


10:00-11:00am: Navigating the General Assembly
Tiffany Gladney, NC Child
This session is intended to empower attendees by affording a greater understanding of the NC General Assembly, the legislative process and identifying the true power brokers on Jones Street.

12:00-1:00 pm: Healthy Communities Dashboard Workshop
Cape Fear Collective
Cape Fear Collective will be hosting virtual training sessions aimed at getting users familiar with our new Healthy Communities NC Dashboard. This tool launched across the entire state in May, and will provide localized insights into 21 social determinants of health, aligned to the Healthy NC 2030 initiative. Click HERE to register.

12:30-1:30 pm: Strengthening Families to Support Youth Resilience
Talk It Out NC
This panel discussion will be an open dialog about supporting positive home environments to raise resilient and thriving youth in an effort to prevent underage drinking. The panelists, Tamra Church, Tocarra Osborne, Dr. Jennifer Matthews, and Nicole Augustine will discuss practical tools to build parental resilience to manage day-to-day stressors and stay regulated, with the goal of being our best selves.  Click here to sign up for the webinar.

1:00-1:45 pm: Community Yoga for Everybody
Heather Lilly 500 ERYT,  YACEP, TCTSY-F, Yoga Village Co-Founder and Executive Director
Come as you are to take time to recharge in a trauma-informed, resilience-focused yoga practice built for you!  Free for all at the Plaza on Princess (The Harrelson Center.)  Bring your own mat or borrow one.

1:30-2:15 pm: Read Across the County Kickoff
New Hanover County Public Library, New Hanover County Office of Diversity and Equity, and Friends of the New Hanover County Library
Come the Main Library to hear from the Office of Diversity and Equity and the Library Director and learn about the Read Across the County Initiative.  This program aspires to bring people of different backgrounds and ages together for a community-wide summer of reading. Click here to learn more.

3:30-4:30 pm: Circle of Security Parenting and Classroom Approach Support Healthy, Thriving Communities From the Start
Susanne Walker Wilson, Resources for Resilience™

Learn about this tangible offering that any community can utilize to support secure attachment and healthy relationships for young children and all their grownups (parents, kin, neighbors, friends, and early educators). Explore COSP concepts, explain how the 8-week groups work in both rural and urban places, and discuss what it takes to become a COSP facilitator and the hefty scholarships available to do so. Find out why NC is falling in love with work that isn’t just trauma-informed but is also attachment-focused.
