Cissy's note: In case you haven't seen @Deb Mutschler's email yet, let me share a line from it here. Deb wrote: "Dear current and former Essentials Leadership and Collective Impact Teams:  Some of you have heard what is now official. Massachusetts has been funded for Phase II of Essentials for Childhood!" This is fantastic news! Please find the complete and official CDC announcement below:

Seven state health departments selected to prevent child abuse and neglect

The CDC’s Division of Violence Prevention announces 7 state health departments will receive support as part of the competitively-funded CDC-RFA-CE18-1803: State Essentials for Childhood: Implementation of Strategies and Approaches for Child Abuse and Neglect (CAN) Prevention (EfC:ISAC). These state health departments include:

  • California Department of Public Health
  • Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment
  • Kansas Department of Health and Environment
  • Massachusetts Department of Public Health
  • North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services
  • Utah Department of Health
  • Washington State Department of Health

Over the next five years, these health departments will address state-specific needs related to the urgent public health problem of child abuse and neglect (CAN). Recipients will implement statewide comprehensive strategies and approaches designed to reduce child abuse and neglect along with other Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and related health consequences and disparities.

Recipients will use funding to implement projects that aim to decrease CAN risk factors and increase CAN protective factors by leveraging multi-sector partnerships and resources. They will focus on implementation strategies and approaches derived from the CDC’s technical package,Preventing Child Abuse and Neglect: A Technical Package of Policy, Norm, and Programmatic Activities.
