Iowa ACEs Action (IA)

Iowa ACEs Action connects individuals and communities across Iowa who are reducing adverse childhood experiences and the impact of toxic stress. This collaborative online community serves as the venue for sharing resources and best practices, and for launching discussion and open communication across all regions of our state.

As knowledge on ACEs spreads across Iowa, we are receiving an increased number of training and presentation requests through the Iowa ACEs 360 website. Many of the requests are coming from regions of the state where speakers are not readily available to present. Would there be an interest in developing an informal speaker's bureau across the state to better support these emerging communities? If so, how do we best identify and connect great speakers across the state?

I would love to see our state develop a "standard" 20 to 30 minute ACE presentation that interested people could get trained in for disseminating a consistent message through out our state.  I am wondering if there is already a web-based training, or a packaged presentation like United Way does,  that we may be able to access to help develop such an informal speakers group.

Central Iowa ACEs developed standard presentation materials for our efforts in 2013. Here is a link to the page: http://www.iowaaces360.org/training.html. In addition to the slides, we also have guides to lead facilitated discussions. I have been finding that as more people have heard an ACEs presentation or completed online learning modules (available at the same link), we are having more and more requests for facilitated discussions. I think this is a great tool for people to take leadership and plan action in their community or organizations.
