The 10th annual Prevent-A-Thon Bring Darkness to Light and Help End Child Sexual Abuse April 15 - 21, 2018 SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now) will be offering FREE Stewards of Children training for interested agencies/organizations. TWO programs in January: Complex trauma and Assessing risk for violence with juveniles
The Roanoke Valley Trauma Summit was held last Thursday, 11.16.17. Approximately 50 Summit participants from over 20 Roanoke Valley agencies watched the film Resilience, listened to a presentation about trauma-informed practice and learned about efforts of the Greater Richmond TICN. At the end of the Summit, attendees unanimously voted to begin a Roanoke Valley Trauma-Informed Community Network. We are so excited for this new initiative!! A GREAT BIG thank you to DJJ for hosting a two day visit from Community Resilience Initiative (CRI) members from Walla Walla in Richmond this past week. We were so glad to connect TICN efforts with CRI members and to share an overview of our work. We appreciate when networks like CRI and Greater Richmond TICN doing this work around the country can learn from each other. Our partners, Voices for Virginia's Children, have sent out a call for organizations and individuals to respond to several recommendations being considered on state-level trauma made following the September 20 Virginia Commission on Youth meeting. On 9.19.17, the Greater Richmond TICN convened a statewide meeting for Trauma-Informed Community Networks in Virginia. There are currently nine TICNs at various stages of development. Summaries from six of these networks (Fairfax, Greater Charlottesville, Greater Piedmont, Greater Richmond, Harrison burg & Southside) are in the attached document. We are SUPER excited to be connected with so many amazing people who are working to build a more resilient Virginia.
