Trauma Informed Congregations - A Strategy Document

Dale Fletcher ·
Hi Folks, I have recently been trained as an ACE Master Trainer through the Children's Trust of South Carolina . In the training we received materials from ACE Interface . My special interest is working with churches and ministries to educate and equip them to be better trauma-informed and to increase the resilience of members of their congregation and of the communities members they serve. Myself and another Master Trainer have presented information on ACEs to a small group of people at a...

Examples of churches, temples, synagogues, mosques, and other faith communities practicing child trauma prevention and intervention?

Laura Norton-Cruz ·
Hello, I just joined this group because, as the coordinator for a statewide trauma-prevention, resilience-promoting coalition in Alaska, I am working with the Governor's Office to organize a forum for faith leaders on the topic of "Safe Children, Healthy Families." I am going to give a presentation to the faith leaders and others assembled and then they will engage in a conversation about what they can do -- with children and youth, with parents and caregivers, with leadership and...

from my blog... Creating Communities of Hope for those with ACEs

Chaplain Chris Haughee ·
Before coming to Intermountain, I spent a little over 15 years in children’s and youth ministry in the local church setting. For 8 years I was the youth minister at a small church in Southwest Washington, and most recently spent 7 ½ years...

Healing the Inner Child, part 3

Misa Leonessa Garavaglia ·
How do you root out the lies that were planted in your head when you were traumatized as a child? Most of us come to believe things that are not true about ourselves in the midst of childhood trauma and then carry that belief unconsciously, perhaps...

It’s dark and it’s painful – but abuse of missionary kids is rightly being brought into the light. The loyalty code that makes people hesitant to confront is being replaced by a Godly recognition of sin and the need for confrontation...

Thank you for your prompt reply. I have my own journey that took me to the Hebraic Roots of His Word. I have worked as a substance abuse counselor and have attended 12 step meetings for many years due to my own addictions. I found the ACE study through working as a TRIAD Women's Project case manager. I would love to converse further with you on how to reach the Messianic Community. Yah has put me on Hebrew Nations Radio Online. My program is called Healing for the Nations with A Modern Day...

Antonio Clinkscales ·
Hi Marilyn, I'm new to the ACEs Connect and wanted to respond to your request. I'm developing a spiritual based approach to ACEs through a messianic message. I have not published anything yet because I'm still receiving from the Most High and working with a small group using the spiritual strategies to healing physically and mentally before releasing it publicly. If you're interested, I would love to continue the conversation.

You are absolutely correct Dave. Churches, seminaries and colleges are completely unprepared to deal with this epidemic. I am glad to hear you are addressing it through your ministry. We need to raise an army! I am on the board of Speaking Truth in Love Ministries, which is committed to the same purpose. Just wondering if you will be able to attend the upcoming MKSafetyNet conference in Chicago this April. Great opportunity to brainstorm with many in the trenches on this issue.

Hi Chris, I recently ran into an old acquaintance, who's now working at the National Center for PTSD, where their database has just about any known assessment instrument, probably with some notes about its efficacy. While his project is separate from the Library & Database, he may very well be able to be of some help. I noticed, after I started this note, that you included your email address at the bottom of your note. I'll try to send you particulars. In the meantime, If you go to their...

Hi Dale, I would love to connect with you. I am a ACE's Child Advocate at a DV/SA support center. My role is to educate those in the community and trying to implement sustainable programming. My next steps is to reach out to the faith based communities. I would love to see your presentation as well as any information or resources you have that would be helpful. Thank you so much. I hope we can connect!

I would love to join this conversation and hear the blog talk radio but I'll be traveling and don't know if I'll have access to a computer. In my church I run DivorceCare, GriefShare and teach a single parent Bible study class. I also created and developed DivorceCare for Kids (DC4K.org) and I know how trauma affects these kids. DC4K has been out for 10 years this summer and we have seen changed lives because of it. We now have young adults who went through DC4K and they are having better...

I agree with you, Chris! There are so very many people hurting that the generic sermons just don't reach them. We have to get out and serve the hurting people like Jesus did. We started a ministry that we are waiting for 501c3 status for, called Lapeer P.E.A.R.L.S. (Prevent. Educate. Advocate. Restore. Love. Support) that is faith based, using Matthew 18:10 Beware that you don't look down on any of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven their angels are always in the presence of my...

HI Dianne, Thanks for the note... and I'm glad that you found the document helpful. The more we can inform people of faith about ACEs, the better equipped we can become to minister to those affected. ~ Dale

Going beyond trauma informed to trauma responsive in our faith communities

Roxanna Foster ·
I would like to share a great resource for churches/faith communities to become trauma responsive. First United Methodist Church is in Central Minnesota have been working for three years to become a trauma responsive church. They would say they are not the experts in any way although they have stepped out on faith both within their congregation and throughout the community. Their website has become an example and resource for many please check it out.
