Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Parity Task Force Social media and engagement package Call for comments

Kimberly T Konkel ·
Please help us engage people in the critical conversation about mental health and substance use disorder parity. President Obama created the Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Parity Task Force in March 2016 to focus key federal agencies on ensuring that Americans receive the coverage and treatment they need. The Task Force wants to hear from patients, families, consumer advocates, health care providers, insurers, and other stakeholders about their experience with mental health and...

Systemic Abuse Within Mission Communities/Organizations

The mission community, on both an agency-level and as a collective community, functions as a closed family system. Closed family systems have some inherent characteristics which have allowed abuse to go unchecked in many settings. The followings...

Re: Anyone working on Jewish approaches to ACEs and Resilience?

Antonio Clinkscales ·
Hi LauraLee and thanks for reaching out. From years of study and application from my own personal journey and battles, I use the holy scriptures from their Hebraic root interpretation according to Yah commands to teach about healing and resiliency; which is not a Jewish or any other religious message but simple a divine truth for all of His creation - it's for everyone who believes. The heavenly Father doesn't hide His plan to recovery from past hurts from His children, learning to trust in...

Re: Anyone working on Jewish approaches to ACEs and Resilience?

Thank you for your prompt reply. I have my own journey that took me to the Hebraic Roots of His Word. I have worked as a substance abuse counselor and have attended 12 step meetings for many years due to my own addictions. I found the ACE study through working as a TRIAD Women's Project case manager. I would love to converse further with you on how to reach the Messianic Community. Yah has put me on Hebrew Nations Radio Online. My program is called Healing for the Nations with A Modern Day...

Maria, I have written a 145 page, 26 lesson, faith-based workbook entitled, Overcoming a Difficult Childhood. The curriculum is currently being used in 14 ministries in 4 states. The book is a combination of solid science and sound biblical principles. University of California will be studying the effectiveness of the program beginning Sept of this year. The curriculum is used in 7 recovery ministries. If you email me at aceovercomers@sbcglobal.net, I can forward you a sample of the lessons.

Re: Trauma informed and responsive SDA Congregations

Ernest Izard ·
Augusta, I just came across your post. I, too, am interested in church-based Trauma Ministry. My dearest SDA friend is the musician, Kelly Mowrer. Do you know Kelly? I’d like to learn more about your interest in church-based trauma care and where you’d like to go with it. Looking forward to hearing from you. Blessings!

Re: Healing the Inner Child, part 3

Linda Ranson Jacobs ·
I would love to join this conversation and hear the blog talk radio but I'll be traveling and don't know if I'll have access to a computer. In my church I run DivorceCare, GriefShare and teach a single parent Bible study class. I also created and developed DivorceCare for Kids (DC4K.org) and I know how trauma affects these kids. DC4K has been out for 10 years this summer and we have seen changed lives because of it. We now have young adults who went through DC4K and they are having better...

Re: from my blog... Creating Communities of Hope for those with ACEs

Former Member ·
I agree with you, Chris! There are so very many people hurting that the generic sermons just don't reach them. We have to get out and serve the hurting people like Jesus did. We started a ministry that we are waiting for 501c3 status for, called Lapeer P.E.A.R.L.S. (Prevent. Educate. Advocate. Restore. Love. Support) that is faith based, using Matthew 18:10 Beware that you don't look down on any of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven their angels are always in the presence of my...

Going beyond trauma informed to trauma responsive in our faith communities

Roxanna Foster ·
I would like to share a great resource for churches/faith communities to become trauma responsive. First United Methodist Church is in Central Minnesota have been working for three years to become a trauma responsive church. They would say they are not the experts in any way although they have stepped out on faith both within their congregation and throughout the community. Their website has become an example and resource for many please check it out.
