Re: An ACES Presentation as a Sermon

Daun Kauffman ·
Dale, Thank you so much for the Principles portion of slide 40! (and the notes). You have been exceedingly helpful and I appreciate it. The reference MAY be to me for something I wrote on my internet site "LucidWitness.com" in August 2016, Titled "Nowhere to Hide: The Elephant in the [Class]room" (Daun Kauffman). I was curious (but not certain) because it seemed so close to home. Thank you again. Daun

Re: Resilience Surveys and the Christian Faith

Linda Ranson Jacobs ·
You might check in with Shelley Melia. I went to a workshop last year at the LifeWay KidMin Conference and she talked about grief and resilience in kids. She has a child's capacity for resilience survey and a parent survey. Don't know if this is what you are looking for but contact and her and find out. Here is her contact info: Shelly Melia, PhD Assistant Professor of Childhood Education Program Director of MA in Children’s Ministry and MA in Christian Education/ Graduate School of Ministry...

Shelly Melia ·
I do have a resilience instrument that includes the faith and spirituality component. Feel free to email me and I will provide the information for it. It is a 30 item survey and is geared towards 8-12 year olds. There is a self-report and a parent-report survey. Shelly Melia shelly@dbu.edu

A Shadow ACE in Christian Babycare

Laura Haynes Collector ·
As a former La Leche League Leader I became familiar with the teachings of Gary Ezzo (“Raising Kids God’s Way,” "On Becoming Babywise") in the early 1990’s. Leaders in my area began getting a lot of phone calls on our warm line that followed the same basic story: a baby not thriving and a case of very low milk supply despite the Mom’s exclusive breastfeeding and a strong desire to breastfeed. It gradually emerged that a local church had begun promoting a rigid rules-based practice of baby...

Re: A Shadow ACE in Christian Babycare

Stacey Ray ·
Thank you! I was one of those 90's Moms who was basically told that NOT using this technique was unbiblical. There were many of us...and yet it didn't feel right. I had a "mentor" at church who told me to get my twins (first born) to nap I had to leave them in dirty diapers so that they would "learn" to self soothe and sleep on a regular schedule. So many other "lessons" this woman tried to teach me (and I read the book multiple times). I felt like my education (I have an MA in Developmental...

Letting Go of Baggage (Wounds of Childhood)

Dale Fletcher ·
Today, Dr Charles Stanley, founder of In Touch Ministries , shares a devotional titled Letting Go of Baggage. Although he does not use the term of Adverse Childhood Experiences, he refers to this type of trauma that a person can experience early in life. I'm making the entire devotional available here as it offers a brief biblical perspective of the impact of ACES and how to handle this 'baggage." ------------- HEBREWS 12:1-3 - "Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses...

Trauma-Informed Ministry preaching series--Bruised Reeds and Smoldering Wicks, Week 1, Jesus and the children (Luke 18:15-17)

Chaplain Chris Haughee ·
In 2016, on the "old" ACEsConnection site, I posed the question: Was Jesus' Ministry Trauma-Informed? What resulted was a definition for a trauma-informed ministry that has been used and cited by others (based on the SAMHSA guidelines for a trauma-informed organization), a post that has been viewed over 4,000 times ( LINK ) and a curriculum that I wrote as part of my doctoral program at Multnomah Biblical Seminary in Portland, Oregon: Bruised Reeds and Smoldering Wicks . It is an eight-week...
