Healing the Inner Child, part 3

Misa Leonessa Garavaglia ·
How do you root out the lies that were planted in your head when you were traumatized as a child? Most of us come to believe things that are not true about ourselves in the midst of childhood trauma and then carry that belief unconsciously, perhaps...

Presenting to my congregation

Cynthia Thelen ·
Good Evening, Everyone! I'm in the beginning stages of prep for a Sunday morning presentation in October where I am tasked with giving a very concise yet educational talk on ACES. This will be the first-time introduction for our church family, and as we house and run a significant ministry to struggling (in every way) families , it is imperative we start to help our congregation become trauma-informed. The mindset is often, "we lead you to the Lord, now move on", and the frustration among...

Silent No More

It’s dark and it’s painful – but abuse of missionary kids is rightly being brought into the light. The loyalty code that makes people hesitant to confront is being replaced by a Godly recognition of sin and the need for confrontation...

Re: from my blog... Creating Communities of Hope for those with ACEs

Former Member ·
I agree with you, Chris! There are so very many people hurting that the generic sermons just don't reach them. We have to get out and serve the hurting people like Jesus did. We started a ministry that we are waiting for 501c3 status for, called Lapeer P.E.A.R.L.S. (Prevent. Educate. Advocate. Restore. Love. Support) that is faith based, using Matthew 18:10 Beware that you don't look down on any of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven their angels are always in the presence of my...

Re: from my blog... Creating Communities of Hope for those with ACEs

Linda Ranson Jacobs ·
Chris, I understand what you are saying. My expertise is in ministering children from divorce and single parent homes. For years I ran a therapeutic child care in OK. I had no church to send these families to because churches just didn't understand what was needed. Parents would say, "why should I go to church? I just get called out to deal with my own child so I might as well stay home." Thankfully more and more special needs ministries are cropping up now. However, church leaders and...

Re: Examples of churches, temples, synagogues, mosques, and other faith communities practicing child trauma prevention and intervention?

Dave Lockridge ·
Lauralee, Thanks for reaching out. Happy to hear from you. Check my website: aceovercomers.org We now have online facilitator training. The first session (one of twelve) is free. There is a difference between establishing a safe culture in a church and just adding a new class to the list of available classes. Establishing a safe culture requires the pastor and leadership to "buy into" understanding and practicing trauma-informed approach to ministry. I'm not saying that the pastor must...

I am working on a research project for my doctoral dissertation that studies faith communities that have integrated trauma-informed care into their organizational culture. I welcome the chance to talk to anyone who might be interested in participating in this study.

RE James Sisson post: Hello James, I would like to learn more of what you are doing and maybe help you spread the word about what you are learning. I'm a retired doctor who now has a ministry called Serenity and Health. It is so clear that ACEs contribute to much suffering, and I believe faith communities can be a source of great healing. But, I think we all need to know more. Maybe I can write about your work or interview you. Please be in touch at dc@serenityandhealth.com . My website is...

1988 U.S. Congressional Resolution #331 acknowledges the role of the Iroquois constitution in the development of our U.S. Constitution. The Iroquois constitution reportedly called for 'Generational Review'- I question whether they 'knew' about 'Trans-Generational Trauma' or conceptualized it differently. They reportedly availed Women the Rights to: Assert, Debate, VOTE, and Declare War beginning between 1095 and 1150 A.D. ..... They certainly used 'Villages' to raise children. I've yet to...
