Resilience Week [resilienceweek.co]

By UNC TV, November 6, 2019

UNC-TV Public Media North Carolina presents the statewide broadcast premiere of the special documentary feature Resilience: The Biology of Stress & the Science of Hope, Tuesday, November 19, at 8 PM, as part of Resilience Week—a statewide initiative to build awareness of childhood trauma, prevention and resilience.

The hour-long film focuses on adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), what Dr. Robert Anda and Laura Porter of ACE Interface have termed, “the greatest public health discovery…most important public health movement of our time.” Resilience delves deep into the science behind ACEs and the havoc the syndrome can wreak on the brains and bodies of children, putting them at a greater risk for disease, homelessness, depression, substance abuse and other lifelong effects on health and behavior. The film also examines how the toxic stress produced by ACEs also creates long-term impact on our communities.

In partnership with UNC-TV, production company KPJR Films has joined forces with North Carolina educators, health care providers, juvenile justice professionals and social workers, along with state agencies, to recognize Resilience Week across the state, November 18-22. Resilience Week kicks off with UNC-TV’s broadcast of Resilience on Tuesday, November 19, at 8 PM, on UNC-TV. Following the broadcast, viewers are encouraged to participate in a Twitter Town Hall featuring local and national experts in childhood trauma, toxic stress, trauma prevention and resilience building. At press time, anticipated participants include the director of the Resilience documentary, James Redford.
