California Essentials for Childhood Initiative (CA)

The California Essentials for Childhood Initiative uses a public health and collective impact approach to align and enhance collaborative efforts to promote safe, stable, nurturing relationships and environments for children, youth and families through systems, policy and social norms change.

Upcoming 6/9 Webinar and New Report and Brief: Community Strategies to Address California’s Digital Divide and Its Impact on Children and Families

PACEs Connection and the Essentials for Childhood (EfC) Initiative, a project of the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) have developed two new resources, “Community Strategies to Address California’s Digital Divide and Its Impact on Children and Families” Report and the “Digital Divide Brief: Community Strategies to Address California’s Digital Divide and Its Impact on Children and Families .

Community Strategies to Address California’s Digital Divide and Its Impact on Children and Families” Report and Brief are intended to assist state and local public health programs, children and family service providers, non-profits, and philanthropic organizations in their efforts to educate about the digital divide and its impact on child wellbeing. These resources may also support identification of where opportunities exist for communities to utilize strategies that reduce the digital divide through policy, systems, and environmental (PSE) change.

To learn more about the new resources, please consider joining the EfC Initiative, in partnership with PACEs Connection, for an upcoming webinar, “Community Strategies to Address California’s Digital Divide and Its Impact on Children and Families” that will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2022, from 1:30 PM – 2:30 PM PST.

Natalie Audage, MPH, Family and Community Resources Lead at PACEs Connection; Dr. Donielle Prince, Director of State Initiatives at PACEs Connection; and Elena Costa, EfC Initiative Program Coordinator, will share about the new brief and report to:

  • Provide an overview of the digital divide in California and its impact on child wellbeing;
  • Describe qualitative data collected from Key Informant Interviews conducted across the state about the challenges Californian children and families face due to the digital divide and the COVID-19 pandemic; and
  • Present strategies and recommendations to address California’s digital divide provided by EfC Initiative and California Campaign to Counter Childhood Adversity (4CA) subject matter experts.
