The Essentials for Childhood (EfC) Initiative, a project of the California Department of Public Health, Injury and Violence Prevention Branch (CDPH/IVPB) and the California Department of Social Services, Office of Child Abuse Prevention (CDSS/OCAP), invites your participation in an upcoming webinar, “Child Wellbeing During the Pandemic” that will be held on Thursday, November 18, 2021 from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM PST.

The purpose of this webinar is to increase understanding of child well-being during the pandemic, see where to access data to support your work, and learn about a school-based approach to address child health and well-being concerns.  Dr. Lori Turk-Bicakci, Senior Program Director from KidsData at PRB will share findings from waves 1-3 of the Family Experiences During COVID-19 Pandemic Questionnaire, provide an overview of the questionnaire, and show where to access data. Tracy Mendez, Executive Director of the California School-Based Health Alliance, will share about the impact of the pandemic on young people from the perspective of school-based health centers (SBHCs), how SBHCs can help address these concerns, and where opportunities exist to improve and expand school health services.

The questionnaire, Family Experiences During the COVID-19 Pandemic, covers a wide range of content areas, including adverse childhood experiences as well as emotional and behavioral health, to help inform on the impact of the pandemic on children and families. The questionnaire was designed by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Prevent Child Abuse America (PCAA), and Tufts Medical Center, Healthy Outcomes from Positive Experiences (HOPE). In California, the Lucile Packard Foundation for Children’s Health (LPFCH) and the California Department of Public Health Essentials for Childhood (EfC) Initiative led by the CDPH/IVPB and CDSS/OCAP, funded an oversample of the questionnaire to produce findings at the sub-state level.
