SHARING THE SCORE: Responding to an ACEs Questionnaire with Empathy and Care

Pediatric Campus and the Elsie Allen Teen Campus, will introduce communication strategies from Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago to help participants prepare to deliver trauma assessment findings with care and compassion.
Through discussion, case studies and interactive role play, participants will learn how to respond to the ACEs Questionnaire with empathy and care.

IN THIS TRAINING ACTIVITY YOU WILL...

  • Hone skills to utilize before, during and after a patient visit
  • Learn how to use a strengths based approach to normalize and destigmatize experience and build in provider reflection practices
  • Learn to identify tactics and build confidence to better connect and ultimately care for patients and communities.

PLEASE NOTE: This training is designed for Medi-Cal providers who are charged with delivering ACES, PEARLS, and other toxic stress risk assessments directly to patients and/or their caregivers, including primary care providers, nurse practitioners and physician assistants.

*These training activities are available at no cost to participants thanks to a grant through ACEs Aware*

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Every day, medical providers across the country strive to fulfill the commitments of the Hippocratic Oath, the Nightingale Pledge or their personal or spiritual creed while conducting their professional duties. As more providers screen their patients for Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) or toxic stress risks, how can they deliver assessment scores with empathy and understanding within the confines of a busy medical practice?

ACES AWARE

We are honored to join The ACEs Aware Initiative, funded and led by the Office of the California Surgeon General and the Department of Health Care Services, which hopes to lead a nationwide movement to significantly improve health and well-being in our communities by providing trainings to Medi-Cal providers and the networks of human serving institutions that help cradle our families during these trying times.
