The trailer for Savage Salvation provides a sobering look at the opioid crisis (boiingboing.net)

To access the trailer with Devin Nealy's post, please click here. Even though it's been a hot-button topic for years, it feels like Hollywood tries their best to avoid stories revolving around the opioid crisis. Don't get me wrong; we'll get a few projects that center on big pharma shamelessly peddling insanely addictive drugs, but we'll rarely get any narratives that focus on the people affected by opioids. It's easy to understand why Hollywood might be a little skittish when drafting tales...

Poet Ross Gay explores these questions -- What incites joy? And what does joy incite? -- in his new book,...

How to Prepare Kids for Prejudice Against Your LGBTQ Family (greatergood.berkeley.edu)

Author: To read Abbie E. Goldberg's article, please click here. The heteronormative family is traditionally gendered, white, and middle- to upper-middle-class, and is characterized by biological parent-child relationships. LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender [trans], queer) people by their very nature...

An Interesting new book

I thoroughly enjoyed reading "DAMAGED: Childhood Trauma, Adult Illness, and the Need for a Health Care Revolution," (UTP, University of Toronto Press, 2021) a new book by two traditional academic psychiatrists from Canada, Dr. Robert Maunder and Jonathan Hunter. I found the book to be a good read on many levels: It has a clear introduction to ACEs, child maltreatment, child abuse trauma and its lifelong impact and what trauma informed care is. It is a relaxed insight into good, dedicated,...
