Yes! Because We Care!

YES! A resounding YES! This is the standard response given from Children's Homes of Cleveland County (CHCC) when asked about opportunities to come together to learn, grow, and develop in a safe, stable environment for children and families.  After all, these are the words penned in the mission statement of the organization, but it is worth noting that this organization strives in every way to live this out.

As a trauma informed agency, Children’s Homes of Cleveland County has been a leader in the community for 50 years. They provide residential placements for children and youth in foster care, independent living services for youth aging out of foster care, adoption services, supervised family visitation, and out-patient mental health services for people of all ages. Their commitment to provide trauma informed services is exemplified by the array of evidence-based treatments they provide in rural North Carolina.

In 2016 CHCC joined Benchmarks’ Partnering for Excellence (PFE) initiative in Cleveland County, North Carolina. The staff at CHCC integrate trauma informed principles such as   trustworthiness, safety, empowerment, and collaboration into their daily practice. In addition, the clinicians go the extra mile to meet the needs of families involved with DSS including extra accommodations for larger sibling groups and a special snack for the kiddos! CHCC has consistently supported PFE by providing meeting space, staff time and clinical expertise.

Since you now know their answer is “YES” to increasing opportunities to build a trauma aware community, you may wonder “WHY”.  It is simple! Their mission statement concludes with these three words “Because We Care”. Children’s Homes of Cleveland County is a leader in implementing trauma informed care because they care about the well-being of the children and families they serve! Benchmarks’ Partnering for Excellence is appreciative of the opportunity to collaborate with CHCC and thankful for their commitment growing a trauma aware community.

The mission of CHCC is to provide children and families in crisis the opportunity to come together to learn, grow, and develop in a safe, stable environment—because we care.
