ACEs and Toxic Stress in Spanish -- A Spanish-language overview from AAP of "toxic stress, how it affects the body's systems, and how we can promote resiliency in children to help protect against toxic stress."

ACE Surveys (different types of) -- A list of the original ACE study, adapted surveys, and expanded surveys.

Circle of Parents -- "Circle of Parents® provides a friendly, supportive environment led by parents and other caregivers.  It’s a place where anyone in a parenting role can openly discuss the successes and challenges of raising children.  It’s a place where they can find and share support."

Connected Parents, Connected Kids ACEs Safety Card -- "In addition to providing safety resources for women, this tool also functions as a prompt for health care providers to discuss Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and the impact on parenting. The safety card offers supportive messages and strategies for positive parenting to prevent intergenerational transmission of ACEs. This 4-panel double sided tool folds up to the size of a business card (3.5” x 2)." Available in English and Spanish, and as PDF for download.

Families and Caregivers Resources -- "The following handouts may be printed and provided to patients in your practice. Please note that these handouts were not necessarily developed by the AAP, but were identified as good resources for parents and caregivers by the EBCD Leadership Workgroup."

Healthy Child Care -- "All early childhood experiences matter. And nearly 50% of children under 5 attend out of home care. Pediatricians need to be involved in helping promote quality early education and child care because it is where the children are. The Healthy Child Care resources assist pediatric health providers in collaborating with early education and child care providers to increase the quality of care, promote early education and improve children's health and well-being."

How Play Connects to Learning -- "Play is an important part of children's learning and development. Find articles on how to intentionally connect play and learning, ideas to share with families, and the latest research about learning and play."

Improving the Appropriate Use of Psychotropic Medication for Children in Foster Care: A Resource Center -- "This resource center houses publications, tools, and webinars to help states that are seeking to improve the oversight and monitoring of psychotropic medication use for children in foster care. These resources are a product of CHCS’ Psychotropic Medication Quality Improvement Collaborative, made possible by the Annie E. Casey Foundation, a three-year collaborative that supported six states in assessing and improving the strength of their oversight and monitoring systems."

The Incredible Years -- "Parenting young children can be a difficult time for both parents and children. Learn about emotional regulation and help your child learn and grow emotionally and socially. Nurturing, coaching, and playing with your child can be a key to success as they grow."

The Influence of Fathers on Young Children's Development -- "ZERO TO THREE’s podcast series, Little Kids, Big Questions, addresses some of the most common (and challenging) issues facing parents of babies and toddlers. Dr. Pruett is clinical professor of child psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine and is a past president of ZERO TO THREE. He is the author of many books on parenthood, but one that I think is most relevant for our discussion today is a book called Partnership Parenting that he co-wrote with his wife, Marsha Kline Pruett." Mental Health Initiatives -- "The AAP developed 2 promotional ads — Mom! Dad! Ask the doctor about my emotional development, too! — to promote the importance of mental health as part of a health supervision visit." Available in English or Spanish.

PBSKids - Arthur Family Health Resilience site  -- What can we say to children when public tragedies, natural disasters, and upsetting events occur? How can we support our children during challenging times? Here are some resources, activities, including a quiz, and videos to help you and your child cope and build resilience.

Play, Zero to Three -- "Children are more than busy when they’re playing. When your children play with you, they are also learning that they are loved and important and that they are fun to be around. Learn more about how these social-emotional skills give babies the self-esteem and self-confidence they need to continue building loving and supportive relationships all their lives."

The Power of Play -- "At Boston Children’s Museum, we strive to provide a rich environment that stimulates children’s natural curiosity and creativity. We work closely with researchers to develop play-based learning activities for children to explore. The Museum is a multi-sensory, hands-on, active, and child-centered environment which offers children unique opportunities for playfulness – to freely and joyfully explore, engage and connect with the world in which we live."

Safety and Well-Being Tipsheet Series -- "These tipsheets provide information on the ways that experiencing abuse can affect how we think, feel, and respond to other people and the world around us. The series also provides tips on how to seek support for yourself and how to help if someone you know is being abused."

Staying Healthy Assessment -- "The Staying Healthy Assessment (SHA) is the Department of Health Care Services’ (DHCS’s) Individual Health Education Behavior Assessment (IHEBA).  The SHA was first developed in the late 1990s and updated in June 2013 in collaboration with Medi-Cal managed care plans (Plans).  The SHA consists of seven age-specific pediatric questionnaires and two adult questionnaires.  It is available in English and in all Medi-Cal threshold languages (Arabic, Armenian, Chinese, Farsi, Hmong, Khmer, Korean, Russian, Spanish, Tagalog, and Vietnamese).  Farsi and Khmer are available upon request from a Medi-Cal Managed Care Health Plan."

The Teen Brain: 6 Things to Know -- "A fact sheet outlining how a teenager’s brain grows, matures, and adapts to the world. This fact sheet also briefly covers the teen brain’s resiliency, onset of some mental illnesses, and sleep patterns in teens."

Text4Baby.org -- Operated by Zero to Three and Voxiva, this is a free app that provides women free text messages three times per week, timed to their due date or their baby's birth date, through pregnancy and up until the baby's first birthday. The texts are developed by experts from all over the country. There is also an app that provides additional information about baby's development, pregnancy, childcare tips, and more.
