History. Culture. Trauma. podcast celebrates Pride Month with author and restorative justice advocate and educator Joe Brummer. Join us June 9 at 4 p.m. ET

June is Pride Month in the United States, commemorating the Stonewall riots which began on June 28, 1969. According to research by Public Broadcasting Service writer Beatrice Alvarez, the riots marked a turning point in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transexual and queer (LGBTQ) movement for civil rights.

"The riot began when a group of people at the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in New York City, were being harassed by police officers. The harassment by police wasn't new to the bar's patrons, but that night the community rose up against it. The decision of a few brave Stonewall Inn patrons to fight back and stand against police brutality and injustice kicked off days of demonstrations throughout the city to protest the discrimination and mistreatment of gay and lesbian communities. The first anniversary of the Stonewall riots was celebrated with gay pride parades in Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and near the Stonewall Inn New York," Alvarez writes.

To celebrate the month at PACEs Connection our History. Culture. Trauma. podcast will  recognize the impact LGBTQ+ people have had in the world.

Since 2010, Brummer  has actively helped schools implement peer mediation programs and school-wide restorative practices. As a private consultant beginning in 2015, Brummer has designed a trauma-informed approach to restorative practices and infused this model in schools.
