Children's Advocacy Center: "No Small Matter" – Film Screening & Discussion

Hosted by Central Florida's Children's Advocacy Center, "No Small Matter" is the first feature documentary to explore the most overlooked, underestimated, and powerful force for change in America today: early childhood education. Through poignant stories and surprising humor, the film lays out the overwhelming evidence for the importance of the first five years and reveals how our failure to act on that evidence has resulted in an everyday crisis for American families, and a slow-motion catastrophe for the country.

Discussion Points include:

  • Identify and discuss equity, the opportunity gap, and the intersection on two-generational solutions
  • Review the current early education workforce, including compensation, turnover, and training
  • Explore and discuss impact of children’s health and toxic stress
  • Review the return on investment and implications related to quality early care and education can have on our economy, criminal justice reform, military readiness, our future workforce
  • Brain science and executive function in later life
