Peace Day in the Park

The Peace and Justice Institute at Valencia College will partner with the City of Winter Park to celebrate the United Nations International Day of Peace on Saturday, Sept. 21, in the city’s Central Park.
Each year, Valencia College celebrates the Day of Peace on its campuses, but this year, the college’s Peace and Justice Institute is inviting the public to join the celebration.
The International Day of Peace has been celebrated around the world since 1982.
From 9 a.m. to noon, the Peace and Justice Institute will offer free activities for all ages including yoga, games, a public art project, and multicultural performances. Community partners will present educational information.
Entertainment will include performances from 9 a.m. to noon, featuring Valencia opera instructor Carla DelVillaggio, who performs as “Simply Streisand”; local cabaret and jazz singer MariaOlivia; Valencia Opera Theatre Project; Valencia Dance Theatre, Fearless Leaders Step Out (Valencia step team); Sueño de Hormiga, a local Latin band; and the chorus from Hungerford Prep Elementary School.
At 11:30 a.m., members of the community are invited to form a human peace sign in the center of the park for an aerial photograph.
