Newly Published Article Outlines Local Training Efforts for Trauma-Informed Policing

Dr. Jeffrey Goltz, Dean of the School of Public Safety (SPS) at Valencia College and Public Safety sector chair for the Creating a Resilient Community (CRC) Network recently published an article in the International Journal of Education Policy and Leadership (2022).

In the article, Dr. Goltz outlines the leadership strategy for equitable policing education and training at Valencia. This strategy included the assembly of a Taskforce that would review and assess current training and education at SPS. The task force received recommendations from the community and met between 2020-2021. As a result of the Taskforce, two ambassadors were selected to begin implementing the work. The college revised current curriculum for law enforcement students to include equity minded principles such as bias-free policing, de-escalation, and diverse communication, as well as N.E.A.R. (neuroscience, epigenetics, adverse childhood experiences and resilience) science.

Dr. Goltz' article references the Creating a Resilient Community (CRC) Network as a "crucial partner" in this work.
