Highlights from Resilience Screening & Workshop for First Responders

On October 11th, nearly 100 people gathered at Valencia's School of Public Safety in Orlando, FL for a workshop and screening of the documentary film Resilience. This event was largely attended by individuals in the public safety sector and was a partnership between the Peace and Justice Institute and the School of Public Safety at Valencia College.

Dr. Jeffrey Goltz, Executive Dean at Valencia's School of Public Safety shared this message following the event:

The School of Public Safety understands the importance of understanding Adverse Childhood Experiences and we are very pleased so many first responders and members from our regional public safety community attended the screening of Resilience on October 11. The workshop exposed the public safety community to a very unique human experience and understanding of ACE’s which is essential in our vision to become a trauma informed community. It was our first big step to initiate a public safety ACE’s workgroup in central Florida, across all disciplines within our sector, with a mission to move forward with widespread ACE’s education in our region. In the near future, the public safety team will collaborate with the ACE’s strategic planning team for resources and connections to this work. Thanks to all for attending this workshop!
