About this Event

Dr. Ken Ginsburg was overwhelmingly well-received as the keynote speaker at the recent Creating a Resilient Community: From Trauma to Healing Conference earlier this year. The Peace and Justice Institute (PJI) at Valencia College and Orlando Health partnered together to bring him back to deliver 3 additional workshops as a Community Resilience Series.

The third and final workshop in our Community Resilience Series will be focused on educators: Building on the Strengths of ALL Young People, December 8th, from 6:00 - 7:30 pm EST (zoom).

Description:

This talk will introduce the essentials of cultivating strength-based, trauma-sensitive, resilience-building interactions with young people. It will focus on young people who have endured hardships in their lives, but will emphasize that when we create supports and systems to meet the needs of youth who have suffered adversities, we create the developmental milieu in which ALL children and adolescents thrive. The talk will underscore the power of well-boundaried, loving human connection in healing and developing youth to become their best selves. It will discuss the critical role teachers always play in young people’s lives, but will emphasize educator’s role during times of uncertainty. It will offer a few communication strategies to APPLY these principles in our work with youth and, specifically, will offer examples of how to give control back to young people from whom it has been taken away.
