Technology Tools to Improve Population Health and Disease Management

With technology ever changing, being able to stay healthy in society is paramount. With that being said, there are specific tools to increase public awareness of disease prevention. For example, mammograms are utilized to detect cancer causing agents in both men and women. Cancer is the leading cause of death in over one million individuals each year. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (2023), there were at least 500,000 deaths related to cancer, of which males (474,000) had a higher rate than females (415,000). Artificial intelligence (AI), has a dynamic aspect in developing diagnostic tools such as mammograms to detect early onset of the disease. It is recommended that females receive screenings for breast cancer after the age of 40.

With the taxing diagnosis of cancer, mental health concerns come into play. The combination of both AI and integrated behavioral health is significant in both cancer treatment, and the stress and anxiety associated with the diagnosis. The Quadruple Aim is of significance, as these sectors aim to provide quality healthcare and provider support to ensure diagnostic tools are suitable to increase disease prevention and decrease healthcare system failures. Medical providers must be provided with the necessary training and support to assist patients with specific diagnosis. Healthcare must also be affordable, and aim to increase patient understanding of their diagnosis, while providing the ability to receive valuable care.

AI and integrated behavioral health utilize technology to bring forth increased understanding of how disease management and prevention assists patients and providers with improved healthcare outcomes. These factors can significantly provide a modernized approach to patients experiencing critical illnesses and behavioral health concerns.
