I have changed the name to CYFS as they desecrate Maori and ALL that is Maori. They do not deserve to carry a Maori name.
This post is especially for all Child, Youth, and Family Services (child protection services in NZ) social workers and Family Court judges
Whanau and the child are one
Removal of children from their whanau is the last resort
Removal from their birth mother is the last resort
Kelvin Davis told us that CYFS would only remove children from their parents as a last resort
Kelvin Davis is Maori
CYFS need to LISTEN to Maori that includes Kelvin Davis
CYFS is still removing children using statements made to Family Court judges that are subjective and without evidence.
I know of removals under section 78 where CYFS social workers have not done a full ecological assessment, Tuituia are incomplete, and they have NOT used a trauma-informed approach.
CYFS state that they are trauma-informed but they fail to build reciprocal, trusting, authentic relationships with whanau.
They do not seek to understand
They use cruel tactics like informing whanau that they will make section 78 removals on a Friday near the end of work so whanau struggle emotionally over the weekend with no access to legal advice
They judge and condemn
They split the whanau up as the first and only resort
They can do this because they can
This happens here in New Zealand
It has been happening for over 20 years
It continues to happen today despite
1. the voice of Maori
2. the voice of the public
3. directives from the Minister overseeing CYFS, Kelvin Davis
4. recommendations of the Ombudsman
5. recommendations of our Children's Commissioner
CYFS, you promote trauma-informed practice and Te Tiriti o Waitangi
Yet you continue to desecrate our people, our whanau, our children
I am calling you out
I will not be a bystander and watch in silence
You are using coercive control tactics
You must STOP
Change is needed
