Parenting with PACEs. PACEs science & stories. Trauma-informed change.

Why is working with survivors of trauma no longer enough?

If you’re reading this, it is most likely because you are someone who has been impacted personally by childhood trauma. I wish we were most definitely connected for other reasons, but I’m also glad to be a resource and support to you in your healing journey.

But lately …. well …. something has just felt like it was missing.

And then fate/the universe decided it was time for me to own up to it.

A little while ago, I did an interview in which I said something along the lines of:

“Well, I don’t really do much on the awareness/prevention side of things. I just focus on the healing/recovery aspects of the field.”

Shortly after, I got an email from a Beyond Surviving graduate:

“I wanted to introduce you to a friend of mine who is doing very amazing and important work. Her name is Toby Stark and she is an advocate for child sexual abuse prevention and has worked with the Olympic committee and other sports organizations. I told her about your work and she listened to one of your podcasts where you speak on this topic and was very excited to get in contact with you!”

Toby sent a note saying:

“I was listening to a recent podcast when you and your colleague talked briefly about prevention, and I thought the stars had aligned for us to finally meet and talk.”

And as soon as we hopped on the phone - I knew they were both right!!

Now - I’m going to be totally honest…

I’ve shied away from doing abuse awareness & prevention work because it just felt like too big of a task to undertake. Where to begin? What do I really want to contribute and say about this? Can’t I just leave that to other people - I mean, there are a lot of folks out there doing this work; I’m sure they’ve got it covered right?!

But as I spoke with Toby, I realized that she had a framework that I really loved, a spirit that was kindred to mine, and that I did, in fact, have some things that I really wanted to share based on the past 15 years of working with those who have experienced childhood trauma.

So, long story short - a collaboration was born, and I am very excited to bring The Empowered Parent: A Child Sexual Abuse Prevention & Response program to you - an important person in my community who I believe will be supported and edified by this work as much as you have been from what I have shared around healing trauma.
